Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames

5.0

Back in the day, Clay Cooper and his four friends were the cream of the crop. Their band, Saga, has gone down in infamy as being one of, if not the best, war bands this side of the Heartwyld. Point them at any monster, and they'd have it beaten before you know it. Now, 20-years later, the group have gone their separate ways, and the years have taken their toll leaving the gang old, fat and drunk. Then, one night Clay comes home to find Saga's leader, Gabe, hunched on his front step pleading for help to rescue his daughter, and they have no choice but to get the band back together and battle their way across the monstrous and unforgiving Wyld.

I had high hopes for this book because the premise sounded so fun, and it completely delivered. It was hilarious, witty, clever, and packed with action. Clay and the rest of the members of Saga bounce so well off one another, and their dynamic was my favorite thing. They bicker and pick on one another like real brothers, but they always have each other's backs. I loved seeing how all the action took its toll on them since they're all way past their prime because it made for some funny remarks and scenes. Even though this is a longer book, the journey these characters went on made it worth it. This is chock full of humor and heart, and I can't recommend it enough.
