Masters of Death by Olivie Blake

5.0

4.5 stars rounded to 5. Cute, clever, witty, funny, I seriously have so many tabs and annotations from all the one-liners and scenes I found funny. This almost read like a Neil Gaiman book or show - you know where there are so many people and elements circling each other and finally align at the end and we get to see how they are connected to the overall picture? The only reason it's truly is a 4.5 is because I got so attached to the characters and their friend group that I hate the feeling I get at the end that they've gone their separate ways (except the couples). It's minor, but I don't like it.

If you're curious, here are some of my thoughts while reading:

* I already love Death and Fox seems deliciously delicious
* istg i love everything about this and I'm only on pg 17!
* Wild! So witty, and ew though
* hahaha these whole two pages are a riot! Def Dramione coded!
* I love all these pages too!
* God, I just love everything about this book!!!
* They kind of give me Good Omen vibes
* Oh. Didn't see that coming.
* I don't like him, ofc, but he's funnnnyy
* They're corrupt, yes, but such idiots I love em
* At some point, i'm just gonna have to quit marking funny scenes bc then everything's going to be marked

Fave quotes (though it was so hard to choose and to keep it to a minimum):

He had the strangest feeling, like he was trying very hard to win her over, a thing he normally did not do. He could see why, now. It seemed exhausting.

She shrugged, ignoring him, which had the enraging effect of forcing him to become defensive of every square inch of a house he had never even liked.

"Thanks," said Tom, who hated her 8 percent less, or may 5 percent more.
