The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin is an incredibly impressive scifi novel with a heavy focus on the hard science, physics particularly. The backdrop of China’s cultural revolution was my favorite thing and I loved the beginning, but not so much where the story went in terms of the alien invasion and stuff.
