I can't believe I didn't DNF this book. It had more plot holes than holes in Padeyn's ripped tank top and literally NOTHING happened for the vast majority of this book. Literally just walking through the desert and deciding whether to stab eachother or make out again. The pace was agonizing.
At the start of the book Kai sets out to retrieve Pae and then we literally spend the ENTIRE book until the last 5% with him trying to accomplish that task. The same trope plays out over and over. The banter is mediocre. Oh and they're chained together for half the book but somehow can still do everything they need to do.
Don't even get me started about them making out in sewer water and Pae who CAN'T SWIM, somehow saving him from the bottom of a flooded tunnel and dragging him through a tiny hole. I just can't. The revelation we learn about the Ordinaries didn't feel like one at all, like didn't we all already know they aren't actually sick. Also, Pae's friends who might actually be interesting characters show up for five minutes and then we never hear about them again. One of many plot holes.
Of course this ends on a cliffhanger but honestly even that might not be enough to get me to read the next book. 2.5 stars which might be generous honestly.
