A Curious History of Sex by Kate Lister
3.0
Interesting and well researched (100 pages devoted to bibliography and footnotes), and the chapter around the linguistic history of c*nt was truly hilarious and remarkable, however I can’t help but feel as if the author was a bit reductive in terms of queer sex and relationships. Yes, she points out the there was historical criminalisation and prejudice for same-sex acts, however as one GR reviewer points out, there is a whole chapter about sex and bread, which probably was a bit looked down on as well. Also I skipped the chapters on genital mutilation because they were too graphic. Overall summary = Very funny at the beginning, squeamish in the middle and then dragging on by the end.
