The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang
5.0
This story got me. And then it gave me and it instantly became a definite favourite.
◊ Sebastian is a prince with a secret that could change how the entire kingdom looks at both him and the royal family. Frances is a dressmaker who wants to chase her fashion dreams. Together they become a gorgeous duo that tackles with the barriers that someone who is queer may have to face.
Frances' unconditional love for Sebastian is pure and really encompasses this entire story. The struggle between supporting someone with their secrets and struggles and self-care makes a (very) important appearance. And her ambition is admirable (because let's face it, we all guiltily watch Project Runway under the cover of dark).
Sebastian is a gorgeous pumpkin and the self-discovery story, while done before, is no less important. The element of royalty gives the story a great atmosphere and twist. In addition, he comes to understand that while it is important to find support in your struggles, there is also a time to find an answer within yourself.
The illustrations are lovely and comfy - I loved the clothing design elements and the overarching theme of embracing the different if it's YOU.
An all-round fantastic graphic novel, 10/10 recommend!
