The Ice by Ryan Cahill

5.0

I think it's great how a prequel to a series can still give you those on the edge of the seat feels even though you already know the outcome for the main character

This quest based adventure is a turbulent one for sure and even though it is a novella, it definitely packs a punch making you freeze in anticipation of what hurdle is coming next and how they're going to overcome it. It's action packed from the get go and manages to cover a lot of icy ground in a relatively short page count but it never felt lacking in detail

There's some really great and heartfelt interactions between some of the characters that will melt any frozen heart. There was an underlying theme of loss and how grief is dealt with and I thought it was executed well showing the softer side of this world with a friendly reminder to live in hope

These novellas really do add to the series as a whole and they are definitely a must read for anyone enjoying the main books
