Dominic and Jolene are the governor and state's first lady. Dominic and Jolene met in college, and they both have accomplished so much. They come from completely different backgrounds. Dominic's mother had a mental illness, and their financial situation was dire. Jolene's family is very rich, but she grew up in a cold home with a stern father and mother who didn't know the definition of monogamy.

Now, while running for a second term as governor, Dominic begins receiving mysterious letters pertaining to a secret that could destroy him. He must find out who is sending the notes before they reach Jolene and destroy his political career. Jolene has noticed a difference in Dominic's behavior and wants to find out what he is hiding. This novel is FILLED with secrets. The storyline jumps back and forth from present to the past when the awful incident took place. It is told from different POVs but is very easy to follow. There were some tough moments to read since the plot includes SA, suicide, and domestic abuse. Overall, this book was a very engaging thriller with different twists.
