An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
5.0
Not gonna lie from the first couple of pages I knew quite instantly that I was gonna love this book. I don't know how to word it but the writing really made me feel something I found it so beautiful that I literally spent the entire day reading for hours on end. I kept switching to the audiobook every time I had to put the book down and do something (the narrators are both great, the male narrator was especially fantastic I'd suggest you check it out)
I loved that the book was very character driven. I found myself easily connected with each character. Every character felt unique and had it's own depth and was very well developed. Elias was a very interesting character and I especially loved seeing Laia's growth.
I also felt a beautiful sense of familiarity at her use of multiple arabic names & terms (Keenan, Mazen, Tariq, izaat) and islamic references like Efrits and Jinn. It's hard to explain but seeing my culture being referenced even slightly brought so much joy to my experience and I really appreciate the author for this.
I love this books so much that I'm finding it very hard to put my feelings into words but I really just want to live in this world with these characters forever I'm so glad there are three more books left but a part of my is just scared of being left unsatisfied.
