The Tilt by Chris Hammer
5.0
I loved Treasure & Dirt so when I saw that a new book was being released centering around Nell Buchanan, an intuitive, strong female detective, I was stoked because she is such a fantastic character that I needed to read more about.
Nell (Narelle) has been quickly promoted to homicide detective and moved to a new rural department based in Dubbo but covers a large area of regional NSW. When a skeleton is recovered after a regulator is blown up, Nell is forced to return to her hometown of Tulong and face her family.
I read a lot of crime thrillers, especially by Australian authors, however no one can evoke emotion quite like Chris Hammer and this book especially gave me all the feels. The struggles that Nell has with her family, especially as the deaths in the town begin to lead back to the people she has grown up with her whole life, are so real, raw and well paced.
As more bodies are discovered, it's clear that there are more than one mysteries afoot and I felt on the edge of my seat trying to piece all of the puzzles together. It was incredibly satisfying when everything was finally revealed and wrapped up.
This is easily my favourite Chris Hammer novel to date and I am so excited for what he has for us in future books.
