ORIGINAL RATING: 4 stars
ON REREAD:
DNF @13%. I made sure I got the absolute latest version of this book, so I can confidently say that the editing in this book is AWFUL. It's not just typos, the writing is just not good. The grammar is bad, the sentences don't always feel complete...it just feels like a writer with great ideas but not great at execution.
Apparently I had a lower standard when I first got my Kindle 9 years ago. My standards are MUCH higher, and I just can't push through...I seriously tried. I'd have DNF'd on the 3rd page if I hadn't.
I totally get that some Indie authors can't afford an editor, so it is what it is. But if bad writing is something that will stop you from enjoying a book, then read the sample first.
Since I DNF'd, I can't remember what I enjoyed about it the first time through. I think it was unique and a fascinating world. So I averaged the rating down to 2 stars.
