The Dead Take the A Train by Cassandra Khaw, Richard Kadrey
4.0
This book was so much fun! I’ve been in my horror era lately from YA to books like this featuring full on gore. This book was beautiful. I never thought that I could say having someone’s hand inside another person’s body cavity was nice, but the way this was written was just so eloquent that it was almost poetic. I’ll be thinking of entrails slightly differently going forward. This book was written in such a raw way as well, poetic and raw – it was a delightful combination. Oh, and then there was the love story. This was a romance like no other. Julie was a hot mess, a full-blown hot mess. However, she ended up being paired with someone quite the opposite, which is always a good thing. Their romance added a lot to the story and was the heartwarming side that I needed. There were some interesting points of view in this book, and they all did their job adding a little bit.
This book has plenty of content warnings. It’s not for everyone. The MC has substance abuse problems, and this is shown on page. There are also graphic descriptions of, well, okay there’s quite a bit of gore. Oh, and language? This book does that too.
Thank you to @tornightfire @casskhaw and @rkadrey for this book. All thoughts are my own.
