Bellevue Square by Michael Redhill
2.0
Rating: I didn’t liked it
2023's ATY in 52 books: 47. A book related to a geometric shape
Format: Audio
This sounded interesting, and started well, but it became a mess.
I get that it’s about mental illness and that we have an unreliable narrator but I can’t stand books without a proper ending just because the author couldn’t think of one.
This novel is confusing for the sake of being confusing, the kind of story where the author thinks he’s being more clever and intelligent than everyone else - spoiler alert- he’s not!.
I didn’t give it 1 star because it didn’t bore me, but this is a 0.5 star book.
I don’t recommend it.
Jean thinks she has a dopleganger, some people said to her that they’ve seen another woman, named Ingrid, that looks just like her.
It’s implied that Jean has suffer from depression, maybe hallucinations too, before. Her husband is concerned.
Jean is probably mentally ill, or maybe she has a brain tumor or maybe she’s dead. She could be the real one or Ingrid may be the real one. She may or may have not have a sister. The sister may be dead or not… It’s a mess, not even the author knew what he wrote.
