I would be remiss if I were to get in these Booksta streets and pretend like I didnโt think that literary fiction and classic literature were not โthe creme de la cremeโ of books to read.ย However, my attitude was abruptly shifted after about six months when I realized there were so many other books being piled, pushed, and shoved in my face. It wasnโt a forceful invasion of books either, but one that I needed to understand that there are so many other genres that I had been nearly โinstitutionalizedโ as an academic to dismiss as inferior.ย
ย
While I do have my preference of reading genres, I have really grown as a reader over the last two years to include more thrillers, romance, nonfiction, and memoirs into my reading horizon.ย However, I still struggle in the areas of fantasy, romance, dystopian, and science fiction. I also would like to read the several different versions of graphic novels that I have of classic novels, too. I have a great list to start out with.ย So, if you cannot tell by now, my challenge for myself and for other readers that want to join me in 2024 is to ๐๐ญ๐ฅ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ค๐ช๐ง ๐๐๐ฃ๐ง๐ in 2024.ย
ย
From the #ExpandYourGenre Challenge, I would like readers to read a minimum of ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐ฏ๐ผ๐ผ๐ธ๐ that you would normally dismiss from any given reading season because you are too comfortable in your safe genre.ย I want you to get uncomfortable, but risk taking a chance of broadening your literary horizon with a few new genres in 2024. You just might find a new genre to call your own, meet a favorite new author, and engage with other readers, too.ย
ย
Expanding your genre has benefits that you cannot see right now, but my ultimate goal for us is to read differently, diversely, and intentionally. Thank you for joining me this year.ย

XOXO,ย
