Overview

This challenge is hosted by @blackbiracialandbookish on IG and Threads. Please come along with me as I challenge myself and others to complete at least 20 works  by on one of the best writers to ever writer letters in this universe: the incomparable Chloe Anthony Wofford Morrison, also known as the great Toni Morrison

Morrison was born on February 13, 1931, in Lorain, Ohio. She is noted for her portrayal of the Black experience, but especially that of the Black female experience, and how Black folk endure and find joy and love in Black communities.

How many Morrison novels have you completed?  I wanted to do a reread of Beloved, but I realized that I still have not read a hefty some of Morrison’s catalogue, which prompted me to create the #MorrisonChallenge2024. Toni Morrison is my favorite novelist of my generation. There is so much she has given to the world of American letters and to the culture of Black people.  While Morrison may often be intimidating to others, her work is of the utmost importance to literary and social nature of readers to understand American literature past, present, and future.  What she has done in the world of publishing, too, is simply a feat in itself as well. There are so many accolades I could unearth for Morrison that I will run out of words for this caption. In order to complete this challenge, you simply need to read at least 20 different books across the catalogue that includes includes 11 novels, 4 essay collections, 3 edited collections, 2 short stories, 1 drama/play, and 11 children books co-authored with her son Slade Morrison

Now, if you feel like you can only commit to the novels, then please still consider joining the challenge as I would still love to have you a part of the experience that is Toni Morrison.  You will not be disappointed.

Let's enjoy the depth, expanse, and beauty of Black womanhood, community, and hope that Morrison left us in her novel, criticism, and other works.

Enjoy the challenge,

Dr. Candice Hale (@blackbiracialandbookish)
