Overview
Join us as we read more non-fiction books in 2024. This challenge has 4 general prompts and 20 guided bonus prompts.
Where did this challenge come from?
As a speculative fiction reader who focuses on reading Diverse authors, a friend pointed out I need to read non-fiction to contextualize the fiction work I'm reading.
How will the challenge work?
To complete the challenge, read 4 books in the main challenge area. Keep reading across the other 20 prompts for fun. By limiting the number of full prompts, I hope this challenge is more accessible. I invite you to join and add your books and participate in the last part of 2023 and all of 2024.
As you read through the year, tag your content #readmorediversenonfiction2024 and if you want to participate in our community of readers, join the challenge, post the books you're reading and include the prompt, keep an eye out for lives, and request to join our Discord!

When picking books for the challenge prompts, please select books by Black authors, Brown authors, Indigenous authors, queer authors, trans authors, and/or disabled authors. Also, remember diversity isn't just skin tone, sexuality, gender, and ability. Consider the person's class, nationality, and religion.
If you notice a book that doesn't meet the challenge criteria, you can flag it for community review, using this form.
How does the St. Martin's Press Boycott impact this challenge?
St. Martin's Press and Wednesday books are under active boycott, because they have failed to protect Palestinian influencers and authors from an Islamaphobic marketing employee. If you would like details on the boycott, please check out this post by Readers for Accountability.
Please feel free to read books from St Martin's Press and Wednesday books, we ask that you hold reviews and posts about those books until the boycott is over. This includes tracking your reading. The organizers recommend adding these books to a doc or spreadsheet.
