Overview
Each of the unique American Girl doll characters and their books have been inspiring girls in the real world to "find their inner star" in lots of different ways since the 1980s, and this challenge is to experience the full scope of the American Girl world and philosophy by trying at least ONE book from every American Girl character (I've counted all past and present Historical Characters I could find, all past and present Girls of the Year, all past Contemporary Characters, and the 2021 World By Us range).
American Girl dolls are famous for being very expensive, but the books are a more accessible and budget-friendly way for fans young and old to access these timeless characters, their stories and all the powerful positive messages and inspiration that come from them. :)
Some tips to help you if you're new to American Girl books:
1) If there's any you have to leave out because the stories contain material that's triggering to you, that's fine :)
2) Most of the pre-2021 Girls of the Year books and some of the Historical Characters books are out of print now, but I can usually find them for sale fairly easily on secondhand book websites.
3) The newer books can sometimes be hard to source outside of the USA and Canada, only when they become older and are discarded from libraires do they appear secondhand in other countries.
4) Some of the Historical Character books have been printed and re-printed as different editions several times since their release, and that means it can be hard to know where to start! But if you prefer books with illustrations, then when you're looking for Historical Character books you should if possible avoid the editions that say "BeForever", as the BeForever range have the usual illustrations removed.
