Random in a good way, I never grow tired of Gaiman's writing. The only thing I didn't like was
how quick and easy the war was resolved.

Loved it! Really thrilling, imaginative & atmospheric! I especially love Thoth’s historic asides. Only flaw is that the climax is very anti-climactic and not satisfying, but not enough to ruin the book.

I read the 10th anniversary edition with the extended, author-preferred text.

At times the book felt like it dragged on. I think part of it might just be that I usually read books with shorter chapters while this book had fairly long chapters. It’s a really hard story to describe, but it has a long of really interesting moments.

I really enjoyed the book though it was meandering and not a lot happens until the last quarter. The world is interesting enough that you don't really mind. (Worth noting that NG did say in the introduction that he wanted to write a novel that was meandering and weird, which he did.)

Helped me get over some big book fear. I love Shadow so much, which is saying something because I never tend to feel so strongly about protagonists. This book comforted me as I chugged through it, slowly, probably over a year. But it was worth it, and l imagine I’ll be reading it again when the time is right. It was wonderful to finish this book in time for spring.

2024 update: this was my favorite book. i’m so disgusted and sad. believe survivors

This is one of my all-time favorite books. It’s a combination of a detective mystery, a thriller, a romance, and more. The mythology behind this story is so detailed. Little hints and clues are laced throughout the whole book. It’s got a very American feel, as the title implies. It’s a fascinating commentary on belief, culture, faith, and worship.
