Possible trigger warnings for this book : death, grief, cheating, depression.
At the beginning of this book, I thought I had everything figured out. I thought Morgan would cheat on Chris with Jonah. And then I was SHOCKED when the twist happened. I could not BELIEVE Jenny would do that to Morgan.. and to Clara.. and poor Jonah. It was crazy. Morgan was such a strong mom, wife, and woman in general. She forgave Jenny and Chris so much easier than I feel like I ever could have. I hate that Clara had to go on so long thinking she had actually been the one to kill her dad and aunt. And hate even more that she was mad at her mom so long when she wasn’t even the one who did something wrong. On another note.. Clara and Miller were so cute together. And Miller’s grandpa was probably my favorite character in the whole book. “I’ll only leave you air” and then he really did leave him air space. 🥺❤️ Oh and unpopular opinion here but I really am glad we didn’t get to read the letters. I feel like it would’ve only caused everyone in the book more pain. That’s all.

I didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did, and the only reason it’s not getting 5 stars is because I can’t believe she ripped up those god forsaken letters between Chris and Jenny?!?! Yes, taking the moral high ground is great, but he’s DEAD! How did the curiosity of his betrayal not rage within her?! Or maybe I’m just not as moral as Morgan…

I wanted to read this book because I loved It Ends with Us and wanted to read more of Colleen Hoover’s work. Colleen Hoover is a Queen at the emotional, heart breaking and heart healing books.
This book has two points of views. The first is Morgan Grant and she got pregnant at sixteen and married the man who got her pregnant – Chris, who was her high school boyfriend. Morgan never went to college and never worked – she stayed at home with her daughter and Chris is the breadwinner. As they’ve got older Morgan realises, she doesn’t know who she is anymore – she doesn’t have any passions and her daughter will be leaving for college soon. The second point of view is Morgan’s daughter Clara who is sixteen-year-old and is nothing like her mother. Clara has a passion for acting and wants to become an actress, she is completely spontaneous and loves to hang out with friends and have fun. With warring personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to coexist. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris – Morgan's husband and Clara’s father. But that peace is shattered when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident. The heart breaking and long-lasting consequences will reach far beyond just Morgan and Clara. While they struggle to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she’s been forbidden to see. With each passing day there are new secrets, resentments and misunderstands that make a mother and daughter fall further apart. So far apart, it might be impossible for them to ever fall back together.
This book broke me and healed me at the same time. I loved the various characters and how you could see the healing process of each character. When I first started this book, it did take me a while to get into it but again, CoHo knocked it out of the park. I wanted to hug both Morgan and Clara multiple times during this book. As well as Jonah and Miller. All of these characters have to deal with so much crap and yet the storyline was still so beautiful written and so strong. Miller’s grandfather completely stole the show even with the few chapters he is in – he owns this book; I love him and the relationship he has with Miller. I wouldn’t say there are any weaknesses to this book, I just don’t think it was as strong as It Ends with Us. But I can’t wait to read another CoHo book.
