“Regretting you,” by Colleen Hoover is an impressive work that explores the dynamic relationships between (mother) Morgan and her husband Chris, as well as as her sister Jenny and husband Jonah, not to mention Morgan’s daughter Clara.

The book begins with a flashback as Morgan (who is the same age — 16/17 — as her future daughter Clara) is with her boyfriend Chris and Jenny/Jonah. Morgan has been feeling off lately, like there’s an emptiness in her that she can’t quite pinpoint the cause to, and she’s startled at the realization that the only solution is Jonah. Soon enough the group is attending a graduation party that she thinks is 4 weeks after school ends but it’s actually 6 which leads to another jarring conclusion: she’s 12 days late for her period.

Flash forward to 17 years later, Morgan and Chris are married with their teenage daughter Clara, and Jenny (whose boyfriend Jonah left the day after Morgan realized she was pregnant), realizes SHE is pregnant, to which Jonah surprisingly steps up to the plate and comes back to help raise the child. That’s when everything gets turned upside down.

Morgan and Jonah both end up at the hospital for a tragedy neither of them could have ever seen coming, but which pales in comparison to the world shattering truths it uncovers. With everyone’s world turned upside down, the challenge becomes how to live with the truth, and not be stuck forever in the past.

This was good, but I got annoyed with Clara at times. She came across very whiney and self centered at times.

I really loved this one! I felt so much for Morgan and although the storyline doesn't directly reflect my relationship with my mom I understood my mom a lot more. The cross-over with the characters makes for a very interesting story and really had me dying to finish.

Having read several of Colleen Hoover's books, I appreciate the ease with which her works can be read. Similarly, this book was an enjoyable. It evoked emotions in certain parts and maintained an air of mystery throughout. However, I found myself becoming frustrated with the characters due to their careless mistakes and dishonesty with one another.
The book features a dual timeline, tracing the lives of a mother and daughter as they navigate existence following a tragic loss. However, the story also reveals some hidden truths and brings old flames back into the mix, adding complexity to the situation left by their lost loved ones.
