The second book in the series did not let me down and if anything I think it was better than the first. The paranormal element in this story seemed more pronounced and creepy and the impact it had on several regular characters had me more invested in what would happen to them. Such a good read!

Just a tiny bit not as good as the first, in my opinion. Still a really cracking read though! Love the characters, setting and how rich in detail it is. Original plot that always remains credible, lesser authors wouldn't manage that. Looking forward to the next installment.

Another good read. I really enjoy the main character, there were two problems I had with the book which is why it didn't get 5 stars. One was that since this is a sequel, the first book established that there are supernatural elements in the world and that Tony McLean can see/sense them, and yet he still doesn't believe the Father about the book of souls, until the end. The other is that I think that McLean would have told McIntyre when Emma went missing. An all points bulliton would have been put out, something, and there would have been no arguing with Dagwood.

Every year, for ten years, a young woman died in Edinburgh. His final kill was the fiance of Inspector Tony McLean. He discovered the murderer quite by accident, recognizing a piece of fabric taken from Kirsty's dress. Now someone else is murdering young women in the same manner, but the Christmas Killer is dead; Tony went to his burial. There is also a string of arson fires in warehouses being renovated. One of the warehouse caretakers tells Tony the fires are the buildings committing suicide; they were all built by a secretive guild decades ago. Tony meets a priest who tells Tony that the Christmas Killer was a former librarian for a small order of monks who were charged with keeping occult texts out of the hands of the world and the monk fears The Book of Souls has been found and has claimed the soul of another person who is driven to murder young women. Very good writing and an interesting premise.

Awful just awful... absolute mess... this writer is lazy and just plain bad at getting the characters to feel believable. And the supernatural aspect good god could it not get any more shitter. No no more of this crap in my eyes
