I picked the book up because I heard that the Way brothers had read it and it had influenced the band name My Chemical Romance. It is the kind of book that you want to pry your eyes from while you're reading it because it is too shocking, but at the same time you keep reading just to see if you're really reading what you think you're reading! Good book, but didn't like it a bit! Don't read this if you're easily offended or have a weak stomach.

Bueno.

'Ecstasy' (or 'Ecstasy: 3 Tales of Chemical Romance') is a book comprised of three short stories all centring around love/sex/relationships/romance whilst high on Ecstasy.

I really enjoyed the first two stories in this collection, but wasn't such a fan of the third. Which is a shame, as that was the longest. Overall though I can say I did like it more than Trainspotting, which I found good but quite painful to read.

I'm really glad I've finally read this book; I've been meaning to since I was about 14 years old (10/11 years ago), as it is My Chemical Romance's namesake. Haha.

Anyway: I definitely recommend the first two stories.

STORY ONE: Lorraine Goes to Livingston: A Rave and Regency Romance.
Obese romance author Rebecca is sneaking chocolates whilst watching her (dick of a) husband, Perky, in the garden when she suffers a stroke. In the hospital - where celebrities can pay to f**k cadavers - she strikes up an unlikely friendship with her E taking, rave loving nurse, Lorraine.

STORY TWO: Fortune' Always Hiding: A Corporate Drug Romance.
Criminal and druggie Dave experiences love for the first time when he meets the armless Samantha - armless due to a pregnancy drug, Tenazadrine, given to her mother during her pregnancy and marketed to her by a few specific businessmen - men who Samantha, with Dave's help, is not ready to forgive or forget about...

STORY THREE: The Undefeated: An Acid House Romance.
Lloyd is a drug dealer and user going about his business with his druggie mates whilst starting to realise that he's getting older and has never really experienced love. Heather is unhappily married and unhappy with her life, desperately hoping for change when, on a night out with her friend, she tries E for the first time.

Popsugar-2021 challenge : Favourite prompt from a previous challenge.
I've not done the Popsugar challenge before so I've looked up previous prompts (One Word Title). I wouldn't have said it was my favourite prompt but it fitted.

This book was okay, I'd probably give it 2.5 stars if Goodreads gave that option. The book consists of 3 stories. The first two were rather disturbing, and the 3rd was just bonkers.

It will be interesting to watch the movie and see how it compares

Irvine Welsh is one of the only authors whose books I finish and then immediately want to start another one. His stories, however disturbing and emotionally draining they are, are always full of such energy and humor that they're impossible to walk away from. The world his books create is one of my favorites.

Ecstacy is not a novel, but three novellas loosely connected by the shared theme of love and the use of the drug ecstacy. Without spoiling anything, the first story is absolutely, hilariously ridiculous. Definitely the best of the bunch. Novella #2 is the weakest, but still worth reading for some very memorable scenes. The final story, and the longest in the book, is a hopeful and optimistic way to end things, and it's also the most believable tale of them all, although that's not saying much.

This is not a good place to start reading Welsh. Trainspotting is obviously choice numero uno, and his full-length novels are always best, but as a fan, this one was lots of fun. And of course, a person who hasn't yet been introduced to the author should know that this guy is basically a walking trigger warning. Here are some of the things you can expect from him (and that were all found in this book alone): rape, hard drugs, absolutely grimey sex scenes- more than once including animals, extreme violence, hatred of homosexuals, language that would make a sailor gasp, hardcore misogny, and a health dose of... Hitler sympathy? Hardly a flattering recommendation, but check him out.

Yet another great book on drugs. This is actually three stories in one book, each story told from several different perspectives. You meet a stream of loveable and not so loveable characters and some hardcore cockney spellings that will force you to reread a few pages. Great for fans of Party Monster/Disco Bloodbath, [b:Fear and Loathing|7745|Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream|Hunter S. Thompson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1165639648s/7745.jpg|1309111] in Las Vegas, and the like. If you're into books with that wonderful, disconnected voice of an author who has done more than his fair share of, well, Ecstasy.
