For a book titled "The Widow Queen" in a series called "The Bold" maybe 30% off this book was about the queen. And 90% of that 30% was her having sex with whoever she was forced to marry that day or fawning over her pet lynxes.
The rest was all about different kings in Scandinavia that kind of all blurred together with their same personalities and blahness. Honestly this was a rough read to get through and the whole reason I check books out of the library before buying them these days.

Polish book, so my review is going to be in Polish(:
Wspaniała ksiażka, Elżbieta fantastycznie wciąga czytnika w swiat Swietosławy ponad 1000 lat temu. Harda jest najdusza Polska ksiąką co do tej poru skączyłam, ten epik łatwo się czyta i różne punkty wydzenia wszystkich bohaterów ciągnie czytelnika do nastepnej strony. Mimo że akcja powieści rozgrywa się w latach dziewięćdziesiątych, Elżbieta pisze swoje postacie w sposób, który sprawia, że łatwo się do nich odnoszi. Bardzo polecam Hardę i nie mogę się doczekać przeczytania kontynuacji!

Bardzo ciekawa i inteligentnie napisana powieść historyczna, każdy bohater jest trójwymiarowy i ludzki. Cherezińska tak trochę z perspektywy Jasienicy przedstawia Piastów jako utalentowanych politycznie graczy którzy bardzo dobrze sobie radzili na ówczesnej europejskiej scenie i traktowali religię głównie jako oręż. (I nie staram się tu ujmować religii, tj przywilej każdej osoby ale tak chrześcijanizm był wtedy - i jest w pewnym stopniu nadal - traktowany i ten aspekt jest dla mnie bardziej ciekawy).
Oczywiście nie jest pewne, czy Świętosława była rzeczywiście Sigridą - ale takie właśnie są przywileje fikcji historycznej, i w tym ujęciu taka rzeczywistość wypada korzystnie i spójnie. Niestety nasze realia wyglądają tak, że większość biografii kobiet jest już dla nas niedostępna (czy też trudno dostępna), tak też bardzo doceniam powieść Cherezińskiej (która notabene dedykuje książkę tym właśnie zagubionym w historii kobietom).

For my Reading the World challenge - this one is for Poland.
I got a few chapters into this and it had major Game of Thrones vibes. But surprise, surprise - Świętosława is a real Polish queen, so this was more historical fiction than fantasy like GoT, which made me enjoy it more. I liked how much actual history was woven into this, and since I like that it didn't feel overwhelming to me. It was also really interesting to read about Pagan and Christian customs during the 10th century and the impact that had on their daily lives.
It does jump around a bit from person to person and until you get the cast of characters figured out (there's a lot of them), it can be a little confusing. There also were a few parts that were a little slower. Overall though, I really enjoyed this.
