I unfortunately was not as engaged with this book as I was hoping to be. I found the characters to be a bit bland and I thought the plot was a bit predictable and the ending felt very out of character to me, so I felt a bit lost when I finished the novel. This is by no means a bad book though, because overall I still enjoyed it!! When I got to
Sam's POV
I started to get into it more since I enjoyed seeing the fallout of the past crime in a new light and each new bit of truth about that night brought me in into the story a bit more. I also just really like how Karin Slaughter writes and how she builds suspense in her stories. This was still a good book overall, but unfortunately I just don't forsee it sticking with me the way that my first Karin Slaughter book, Pretty Girls, has. It felt like it didn't have as much to say and it just didn't keep me on the edge of my seat in the same way, which ultimately made The Good Daughter a bit underwhelming :/

Too many sentences start with she and the ending seemed like it skipped something abruptly.  In other books, I expect a jump to down the road in the future, it feels like the right place.  In this book, it didn't feel like the right place.  It felt like I missed something.

I loved this book despite the many trigger warnings it comes with. She has such a way with words that has you feeling like you're right there. You picture the scenes and even the smells. Quite a few you wish you didn't picture because of how disturbing they are. Sam, Charlie, Rusty, and Gamma will live rent free in my mind. I went through so many emotions during this book and cried a few times. This is definitely a rollercoaster with twists and turns I didn't see coming.

A fast-paced crime thriller with lots of twists. I really enjoyed exploring the relationship between the two sisters as they come to terms with a heinous childhood traumatic event, complicated relationships with their father, each other, and themselves, and a years-long estrangement. I appreciated the way Slaughter looked at the different ways trauma manifested for the sisters and how it played out in their lives. There were some tropes used that I would normally avoid or DNF with, but I was too invested in the story and characters by the time they came up. Ultimately, it felt like a story about the multitude of ways men engage in violence against women (physical, sexual, emotional) and the ways that impacts the lives of women for years to come.
