We dream like animals do, our dreams stepping over the same paths of life, for the most part. The really lovely twist of the knife is that Hallie hadn't transcended animal dreams, she'd been a part of them in her very pragmatic way of making change. I find something really lovely in that - in that for certain people there's a inevitable march to the unimagineable because it's right. That's transparent enough, but I also loved that Kingsolver explored the flip side. That there's also a courage to be had in putting down roots, in believing in a smallness to your life that lends itself to building community. I hope to be Hallie, but am comforted that Codi is not an opposite but an alternative.
