In a dystopian future, one last group of resistance fighters are battling to keep independence from the United Nations of America and the Christian theocracy that controls it. Little Bird is a young girl given a mission by her mother to find the Axe, in hopes that he can be the savior that frees the land. Her plan is simple: Free the Axe, Save the People, Free the North, Save the World. But life is never simple, and her own ties to the Vicar from America makes things even more complicated. This is her story of her contribution in the North’s fight for freedom.
This was good - very violently bloody - but good. There is nothing subtle about the story and what it’s trying to say about independence and people’s connection to the land and the evils of theocracy, but that lack of subtlety works in its favor. Only read if you don’t mind incredibly graphic violence.

I gotta say the visuals are what bring me into this graphic novel. The inspirations from Moebius are on spot. They are so bizarre it's hard to tell what's an illusion and which is just the legend.
You have your typical Dystopia story this time with commentary about the Inuit and Canada's history of religious conquest. These days, the stories are so common, it's become toothless. The Bishop is your typical religious fanatic and the rest of the order are quite literally hollow. They project themselves as wellness perfected. But that's just a number of lies they tell themselves.
The main theme however is the difference between fighting with purpose to just fighting. It's the same with all sides. Many of them want their sides to come out on top and strive for something better. Unfortunately, that's just another story to say that they're in the right. The real challenge comes from saving themselves because otherwise you're just living someone's delusions.

Very cool art. Great character design. Super cool world. Highly recommend for post apocalyptic, religion gone wrong, hero's journey fans.

This is a good example of checking out the artwork before reading it. While the plot was really interesting, I was not a fan of all the gore. But, that's on me. I did like the hopeful ending.

Важлива подія у моєму житті: раптове осяєння ролі оцих окремих рамочок навколо картиночок у книжечках з малюнками. Так, йорнічаю, але це вже явно останні конвульсії твердині, що пала

...Blood, blood, more blood, plus blood and blood.

Gorgeous artwork! The story is alright, nothing novel or unique (super extreme religious group vs underdog freedom fighters). Good read though, and the art alone was worth it!
