Overall I liked this book. We love a strong FMC, and Karigan didn’t disappoint. Also can’t go without mentioning how much I loved Bayberry & Bunchberry.

Clunky writing and an irritatingly disjointed story. I don't mind fore- or back- shadowing but even the continuous bits of the narrative seem to stumble between episodes. Feels like an inexperienced writer who loved LoR and some other swords and sorcery stuff and thought they'd have a go. Maybe better not.

I would love more YA fantasy that doesn’t involve a love interest. This was great. I loved so much of this journey and the characters our FMC runs into. I love how the book doesn’t pretend she can outmatch muscles she runs into but instead outsmart. It’s a great message to young girls that you can have an interesting life, use your intelligence to get by, and all without it revolving around a girlfriend of boyfriend being the end game. This is just a solid adventure story.
