I usually don't mind a predictable ending as long as the story is decent but it was a little ridiculous that I guessed both the killer and the motive within the first couple of chapters. There were so many POVs that it was hard to track, and the writing lacked any depth whatsoever. Every sentence was "(person) thought about who killed Diana. (person) felt terrible about what happened to Diana. How could something like this happen to such a great person?" Just nonstop telling telling telling. The story was compelling enough but it was a very mid book.

Shari Lapena does not disappoint. Even though the story only slowly develops in the beginning it increases the need to continue reading. The topics discussed such as sexual assault and unhealthy relationships are carefully touched and the feeling described to understand actions better. However, feelings of the offender is not described as much as the victims which I find very good and fitting.

What Have You Done? By Shari Lapena

This was a fast paced whodunnit thriller set in a small town with multiple POVs including the victim’s. Short chapters made you want to continue on and on.  The author’s engaging writing style held my interest throughout the story. Though I guessed “whodunnit” early on, Lapena threw in twists that threw me off the path a couple times.

I recommend this to anyone who enjoys fast paced, easy, suspenseful, intense thrillers with a whodunnit vibe.

Didn't wow me but I didn't necessarily hate it. I could tell who the killer was about 1/4 of the way in.

I enjoyed the dead girl ghost aspect. Wish that would've been explored more. I love an Ouija scene!

3.5✨✨✨Shari Lapena’s book The Couple Next Door really got me into thrillers. The twists and turns always drew me in. Her most recent book, What have you Done, had its fair share of surprises. The ending was shocking, because, with Lapena, you always think you know who did it but you NEVER do! She is the queen of the rollercoaster ride in a web of suspects.

What it didn’t have was a strong storyline or character development. The book was overly saturated with side stories and I found my mind wandering. I tend to love when there are several narrators but trying to follow all the speaking characters (I believe there were 5-6) was too much at times.  Despite this not being my favorite book, I’ll always give her another chance to thrill me. Spice: 0/5
