I love the Rainbow Fairy books but I don’t think this one has been one of my favourites, I personally enjoyed Ruby, Amber, Saffron and Fern a lot more. I loved Rachel and Kirsty’s rockpool adventures and how lovely and helpful the crabs were,
but I wasn’t a fan of how ill and pale Sky became after the goblins got near her.
Just when I was thinking that Rainbow Magic is nice and relaxing and nothing too dramatic happens! Oh well, I’m not going to love all of them the same amount, I’ll just enjoy the ones I do like more.

I feel like the drama of the series really picked up in this book with sky getting hurt by the goblins and the fairies having to (finally) use magic. The crabs are also very sweet and I think this story does a good job incorporating a lot of characters. That being said perhaps it’s because it’s a children’s book but the characters dilemmas/problems/injuries all feel very melodramatic and slightly pathetic.

Grade: A+

I am basing my rating for these childhood books on how much I enjoyed them when I read them as a child.
