MAJOR SPOILERS FOR PREVIOUS BOOK (UNLUCKY LIKE US).
At thirteen books, this is the longest series I have ever been invested in. It feels like the end but also not since we'll have the Cobalt Empire series starting soon.
What I'm struggling with is the after effects of the amnesia trope. I see the positive and negative parts of it. For Luna, it was better to go through life without her jaded years coloring her actions; she was more open with people because she knew how closed off she became. For the authors, they have the choice of retreading the emotional ground we covered in the first two books or skipping past it since we already read it once. KBR chose the latter. And for the most part, it worked. I don't feel like I missed a lot of Luna and Donnelly reconnecting but it still felt different. There was a lot more reassuring that Luna was acting like herself instead of her just reacting in the moment.
In the end, I do think losing her memories helped both of them as they previously told each other things they did on their own but this go around, they reached out to the other for help. Luna took Donnelly with her on her nightly excursions. Donnelly called Luna when he was hazed and stranded by SFE. They got their do overs.
It was a great series finale that gives it’s major players their happy endings while also showing how they’ll still be able to grow and change in their future appearances in later books.

I have *such* a soft spot for Donnelly. I know this is a love story between Luna and Donnelly, but Lo and Donnelly’s relationship is my absolute favourite ❤️😭 They are consistently making me laugh or cry.
At 80% I felt like there was too much still going on and couldn’t see how it was going to wrap up by the end, but they managed it and I was happy.

What a way to end an ERA!!!
It’s bittersweet to be done with this and honestly I have many thoughts.
I don’t really give a shit about Luna and Donnelly.. I mean their love is good and all but I don’t think it ever came back to how real it was before she lost her memories. I know they started from the beginning again but the second time just felt like mostly sex to me plus the fact that Donnelly was always giving to Luna but Luna wasn’t giving back. It was all very undercooked to me. I was more focused on the Cobalt brothers and other drama that overshadowed their love and left it on a back burner of the sorts.
Plus Luna never really got her memories back which is understandable sometime with amnesia but the sisters didn’t give that particular plot a “conclusion”
Also what with Charlie and Ben??
