3.25
- 3rd: 24/04/24
No rating
The third book is coming in audio soon so a reread was in order (but I'm not rating it because I didn't care for the book this time around and I can't be bother to think about a proper rating)
- 2nd: 29/11/22
3,25/5
I clearly liked it better this time around (the fact the narration speed is now x2.5 is probably also a factor).
- 1st: 17/02/22
2,75/5
I liked it well enough but it was a bit bland.
I will still listen to the next book though.

Reading Davidson King books is always comfortable. They remind me of Sunday afternoon reads, the kind you can’t put down and have to read in one seating.
The Blood Boss is a little fantasy, a little romance, and a little humor.
Cain has a deep backstory that is slowly revealed over time with some interesting twist. I enjoyed slowly reading more and more throughout the book instead of one giant reveal. Jayce was much of the same with a backstory that is slowly revealed throughout the book. The characters played off each other nicely. There was no insta-love for our MCs, but once that connection was made it was beautiful.
*Reader Note: I received a free copy of this book directly from the author and this is my honest review.

Absolutely loved this first book in a new series from Davidson King. I am a fan of her Haven Hart series and this has a familiar feel to it. She has created a unique universe her and I look forward to learning more about it.
Main character Jayce is a human who offers himself in place of his father to the vampire boss of all things to repay a debt. (Picture the scene from The Hunger Games…”I offer myself as tribute!”) Cain is the Blood Boss, the leader of all vampires who rules the town of Black Veil. As the two men spend more time together a relationship begins to develop that is greatly impacted when new and startling information is discovered about Jayce.
The world building is well done and the character development coincides with that nicely. The story arc moves well. There are a range of emotions the reader will experience given various aspects of the story. The suspenseful parts are tense and exciting, the relationship elements are sweet and steamy.
There is much to learn and I really look forward to the next book in the series.
