Laolao's Dumplings

This book is wonderful! My heart soared when the main character refers to her dad as "papi". This is the kind of biracial representation that I wish was around when I was a kid. I also appreciate how the family takes care of Laolao and respect her as their elder.

What a cute foodie picture book!!

I’ve been looking forward to this one and it didn’t disappoint. With gorgeous illustrations and a heartwarming narrative, readers will experience a beautiful relationship between a grandmother and granddaughter. I thought this was going to be sad, but thank goodness it didn’t end that way! Definitely give this a read.

Beautiful story with wonderful illustrations. Highly recommend.

A warm fuzzy story about a little girl's love for her grandmother and her dumplings. As grandma gets older, they can't enjoy the same activities they used to. One day Millie decides to make dumplings with her parents for her grandmother. Grandma is still alive at the end of the story but it is a little sad seeing grandma get older.

Gorgeous illustrations 😍 😍 😍 😍 😍
Heartwarming story

This picture book is a sweet story about a little girl who loves to make dumplings with her grandmother. As the story progresses, the grandmother ages and becomes less physically capable, and the little girl takes responsibility for making this favorite food. I was concerned that Laolao was about to die, but fortunately, she is still alive and well at the end of the book.

This book includes lots of nice cultural details, and I appreciate its portrayal of how a family can transition and make new memories during a time of change. There's also a nice author's note at the end, and a family recipe for making dumplings.
