The first of Robert Langdon's adventures, definitely prefer the book to the movie. Characters are more fleshed out in the book (especially that of Vittoria Vetra).

Dan Brown did it again! He did follow a similar receipe of that to the Da Vinci code, but I found the plot to be completely different. It was captivating reading about such a niche part of history and art history. I love the symbology and I even thought the anti-matter explanation sounded somewhat realistic. I did suspect the Carmelengo and Mr. Kohler while reading, but was surprised when it was not Mr. Kohler; as the underestimated disabled villain  was in the Da Vinci Code. I would highly recommend this book and I can't wait to see the Vatican someday and think about this book.

Firstly, I ask myself this question, was the book interesting enough considering its length ? The answer is NO. Not quite enough.

Professor Robert Langdon gets a call in the middle of the night from CERN(European Organisation for Nuclear Research) asking him to come over as there is a crisis. A scientist has been murdered and a symbol has been branded on his chest. Robert Langdon gets there in a science-fiction created plane. The brand on the deceased scientist chest is ‘Illuminati’. Professor Langdon who specialises in religous symbology, is baffled as the illuminati is supposed to be defunct since last 150 years!

Dan Brown succeeds in getting us glued to the story, which is pretty interesting to read. But there are a lot of twists in it, and the last few are more cinematic than realistic to convince those who cannot keep logic away.
Robert Langdon is a fantastic character and so is the Carmalengo but the rest were pretty ordinary. The assassin or ‘Hassassin’ in this book is not fascinating as you are not convinced till the end how he was found and convinced to do such a dangerous job.
In some parts the book becomes a real page-turner but then there being lots of unanswered questions about the motivations of certain characters and defying of (forget science), plain logic make this book an average thriller at best despite the fascinating Vatican City history, architecture of the churches and illuminati symbolism.

This was a reread for me (but my first time listening to it on audio). I really enjoyed it! i basically couldn’t put it down for a week. it has all the hallmarks of an interesting thriller: action, multiple perspectives and timelines, a secret bad guy and best yet, a mixture of science, religion, and mystery!

i would say the last 2 hours or so dragged for me unfortunately, especially the big reveal at the end. but overall, i would still recommend it.

Well written and cohesive, with very different characters and plot twists till the end. I enjoyed it, though it isn’t something I’d pick up again, mostly because it’s just not something that interests me. I’m just not the target audience.
With how long it is though,
it’s hard to believe the whole book took place over less than 24 hours, much less that most of it took place over about 6 of those hours.
