Lovely picture book about a girl who enjoys writing letters.
Good story to use when discussing helpers, etc.

This was a cute story but the artwork is what sets it a part for me.
In the background of this story's artwork are people wearing mask.
The pandemic is not involved in the topic of this story, but the fact that the artwork gives hints to it makes it special in my eyes because in 20 years and further on into the future such a small detail will mean so much to us.

2022 update: I read this for my library's Community Helpers storytime, because even though I was afraid that I might cry, it's too wonderful not to share. I made it through without getting emotional, mainly because I didn't read the letters that Emerson got back from post office employees. I just pointed them out in the illustration.

The only thing more heartwarming than the viral story about Emerson's letters is this picture book retelling of the story. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, light-filled, and radiant, and the text captures Emerson's voice and authentic care for others. I teared up more than once, and absolutely love how this book emphasizes the goodness and value of ordinary people doing their ordinary jobs. This book encourages children and adults to express gratitude, honor the value of work, and encourage the people around them.

A letter to thank the people who make sending letters leads to thanks to all the service workers in her life.
