This is where the series really starts ramping up, in my opinion. Gon and Killua are finally learning Nen so the fights start to get really exciting at this point in the series.
I loved getting to see the dark side of Gon’s fiery determination in this volume. He’s not just determined, he loves the thrill of fighting. What lengths will he go to to satisfy that thrill?
We also got to see more of Killua and Gon’s relationship in this volume. This time, it was Killua’s loyalty to Gon that got the spotlight. They have such a wholesome and cute relationship it just makes me so happy. It’s definitely one of my favorite friendships ever in fiction(I know they become more than friends at least to Killua later in the series but they still start out as friends).
Also, I can’t not mention Hisoka’s major role in this volume!!! Compared to the anime, manga Hisoka seems much more sinister to me! He is such a wickedly fascinating character it’s hard not to be mesmerized by his appearances in the story, no matter how creepy he is. He’s such a great antagonist I love that he got a chance to show his strength and bloodlust!!!
Lastly, the art in this volume was a bit hit or miss for me. Some of the panels were stunning. They were visually interesting, had a unique style, and conveyed so much personality, especially some of the Hisoka panels. On the other hand, there were some panels that were obviously rushed and sloppy. I wish the art was more consistent, but I can’t complain too much. I love Togashi’s style, and how well he conveys movement and emotion, even when the art looks rushed. His style makes the fight scenes exciting and easy to follow, which was especially noticeable in this volume which had two major battles.
