I like the exploration of another alien species again! It is interesting to see how the different lives of the different aliens affect how they think and act, whether we deem it moral or not by human standards. I like how we see Vordis's devotion as something beyond what he and Thrand was programmed to do. How the A'ani start to become more comfortable being their own beings rather than clone slaves.
I like the little easter egg of Thrand watching Nadine when she's around and mentioning when he finally understood what Vordis was trying to tell him in terms of his duty vs feelings for Angie.
Definite character growth.

We see that the aliens tend to be more frank and literal, and the A'ani clones are no exception. It reminds me of back to Veronica's book where one of the A'ani joked about
"what if a female trips and falls onto my cock? would I then be able to claim her as my mate?"
