Read in big chunks, I can see themes and patterns emerge. In the same vein as his line, “I love your orange laughter,” adding color to abstract concepts comes up frequently.

”i love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul. i love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. i love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so i love you because i know no other way.”

Increíble la manera en la que Pablo Neruda relata a través de 100 sonetos de amor parece que te cuenta una historia aunque en realidad se pueden leer por separado, definitivamente me quedo con este:

LXVI

I am not an avid reader of poetry nor will ever claim to fully understand the genre. But these two following sonnets: XVII & LXXXI by Neruda took a hold of my heart, my soul, touch me so deeply and intensely. They make me long for the day that I am in a relationship that will encompass & possess both the true essence and magnitude of unconditional love that is written in each one of these sonnets. I fully know that one day it will happen and when it does, it will take hold of me, my CORE and I will experience things I never have but always dreamed of!

Neruda is one of my favorite poets and this book contains my absolute favorite sonnet:

Sonnet XVII

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

I eventually plan on getting a tattoo of part of this sonnet, possibly in spanish since that's what it's translated from.

The most wonderful poetry collection I've read. A beautiful song to love itself. // El poemario más maravilloso que he leído. Una canción preciosa, dedicada al amor.

What a way with words! I wish I was bilingual and could read it in the original Spanish, too.
