It's so light and fluffy, like it could hint to something real but never really feels like making the effort. I've already started copying 'sick-making': I say stupid - making in my head or something and feel like a bloomsbury.

I enjoyed this one much more than Brideshead (someone once told me that stupid people didn't like Brideshead, what a jerk). This book is silly and made me more interested in reading Waugh's other works.

A good old fashioned farce. A bit like Jeeves and Wooster ..... but with sex!!!

Smashing little read. Very funny.

the characters were interesting but i kept forgetting who they were since they all were so interchangeable. fun satire to read along with although there isn’t much of a throughline to the plot other than adam and nina’s relationship. the plot was a bit, choppy? it could be hard to tell how much time passed. i feel like i always enjoy more historical books more than i normally would have because it’s fun to see how people used to live.

Honestly don’t know what star rating to give this so may revisit. Some genuinely laugh out loud bits and I saw the political and social satire/commentary loud and clear. That bit was on the nose and very funny. But as an actual book it was disjointed and all over the place, and the ending was very unsatisfying in a way that I think was intentional but that doesn’t make it more satisfying you know? Like I got what he was saying but that didn’t make me like it any more. Funny though, lots of great lines or scenes, but a very odd book.
