Is it too much to ask for romantasy books to make sense? My god this was horrible, I can't believe the hype. I skimmed through the last 40% and read parts of it to see if it got better or at least had twists that made it worth it and it absolutely did NOT. This is just tropes and SMUT strung together without trying to make sense anymore. Every single plot point/twist had me asking "are you fucking serious? All that buildup for THAT?" It's all the most handwavey logic with no rules or sense except for 'ways to put them in sexual situations'. God I'm mad I even wasted another 4 hours skimming the last 40%.

If you want the books you read the MAKE SENSE at all, don't waste your time. This felt like bad fanfic on ao3.

I don’t mind explicit content, but this book took it to an extreme. It felt like that was the whole point of the book. Sex was driving the characters more than I normally enjoy in a book. It was a fun mix of Bridgerton/high society and fantasy but I just don’t think it was super well written.

Bitch.
there is nothing i love more than a powerful woman making a powerful man her BITCH.

i almost threw the book at the wall when i realized this was a solo and not another series i could die. But i know the next ones are going to be about the other brothers and i literally cannot wait cause one thing about Keri???? She’s gonna put in the most intriguing side characters and drop delicious hints of what’s to come with them. If i don’t get a sloth or gluttony book next….war.

NOWHERE near as good as Kingdom of the Wicked in my opinion. This was supposed to be a step up as her first true adult novel. Other than the s*x scenes being slightly more explicit… there was nothing adult about the content of this book. The plot was poorly constructed. The characters seemed very surface level. The story expanded the world we learned about in the KOTW series in the most unoriginal way. It felt like she saw Romantasy was getting more popular and decided to go down the ACOTAR route when the world she had already written was unique and fun to read about. Some of the names of people, places, and things seemed like placeholders from her first draft she forgot to replace. The land where the Fae live is called Fairie. I shit you not. And that’s just one example. I couldn’t take it seriously. There were a few twists I did appreciate but even the way those were revealed was lackluster. I would probably only read the next book if I was incredibly bored and had nothing else to read. So… not likely.

I've had this on my TBR for a while and finally got to it! I will say I was a bit disappointed by this one, but i wouldn't say it's a bad book by any means. I thought this was a great pallette cleanser, which I've been needing after longer and more intricate books, so I really appreciated that. I do think the author sacrificed the plot for spice, which may or may not be your cup of tea.

I so enjoyed coming back into this world. I cannot wait to see the other stories unfold!
