honestly a pretty interesting story so far. a little confusing but i’m curious to see how the story unravels in the next two books
so far my fav character is moth man. he has slight caveman tendencies just like the other hero. moth man feels this soul deep attraction to the fmc but the other hero gets very possessive because he knows she is his mate. the end of the book leaves off where moth man and the fmc are finally getting a little bit closer but the other hero still hates moth man.
also moth man can only communicate through asl since he doesn’t want to cause the heroine pain. in order for him to speak he has to convey messages through someone else’s head and it’s very painful to be on the receiving end. the heroine doesn’t know asl so they use a notebook to communicate.
fav quote from moth man:
“I swallowed nervously, hoping Ava would make it out of this alive and okay. I couldn’t let her die. This thing with her was serious. I didn’t just want to fuck the girl. I wanted to carve our names in a tree and ask her to go steady. I wanted to be close enough that if she was already on the toilet when I had to go, she’d open her legs wide and let us piss in the bowl together. That was the type of relationship to aspire to.”
i’m excited to see how the dynamic of this relationship plays out especially since we haven’t met all of the harem members.
safety:
one of the heros is a virgin (he waited for the heroine) i don’t think the heroine is a virgin. the other hero (we’ve only met two so far) hasn’t had sex in centuries
no OW/OM drama

been wanting to read this for a while but I only now got the urge to actually read it and I was not disappointed. this was soo good omg I love them. super great and quick monster read w a whole lotta spice. also, the spooky vibe of this was absolutely *chef's kiss* so perfect for fall.
and I love all of the MC's but the mothman has my heart, he's so freaking hilarious and sassy lmaooo "giddy up girly"
the only unlikable part of this was the FMC. I get her being scared and all that but she's a grown ass woman, she's too old to be acting the way she did throughout this

I love mothman. And I love the bickering our 2 male leads get into, their rivalry was enjoyable. But I don’t love naive female characters. It’s so cliche and not very believable in this situation.
The horror aspect of this novel wasn’t too over the top, though it was very close to being too much. I also am so glad this wasn’t a dark romance in the sense of there being mean or rape-y love interests. It’s nice having dark themes without our love interest/s being totally disgusting towards our fmc. (I’m looking at you Carnal Cryptids)

This is pretty far outside my normal genre comfort zone but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. There were some parts that I could do without but those were preferential, not that the author didn’t write them well.
I read a few reviews before diving in and one said that Ava was a sniveling, immature brat for not accepting her family gift and for being terrified all the time — after reading the book, I have to wonder how far the stick was up that reviewers a** because Ava’s family was pushy and insensitive, not to mention unsupportive and I don’t blame her at all for pushing back on her “gift” when she clearly gets the brunt of all the creepy shit, where as her mother is a mere medium, and her aunt is a glorified YouTuber. As for the always scared part? Wasnt that the entire basis of this story?! Ava lives in constant fear, feeling the overwhelming dread as presence after presence tries to suck her in, tries to consume or captivate her. I would’ve questioned her sanity if she wasn’t scared.
And it’s so well written. Her fear and anxieties. I don’t usually like horror or even heavy suspense because I’m too easy caught up in it, as if it’s my own emotion. And Beatrix Hollow does a good job making you feel Ava’s emotions; but she balances it really well with romance, sexual tension, and spice. As well as a genuinely interesting story.
I haven’t read a lot of, what my friends affectionately call monster p*rn, so I’m not sure if they’re all this well written or not lmao. But I LOVED to see some uncommon monsters, not your every day shifters (even if they’re my favorite). I was absolutely squealing about Mothman being a damn gunslinger that knows ASL. I can’t wait to see where this goes!

A comedy monster romance with a dark scary side. I started reading this because of pure curiosity. And belive me "curiosity did kill the cat" and my innocence. Because this is the stuff of nightmares, weirdly hot and maybe wet nightmares but still scary af.
