This was the first self-pubbed book I've read. It was fine, the writing voice felt stiff but I liked Nino and the concept. I'm not going to read the rest of the series though.

(2.5/5 stars) I kept reading this only to hope that something big would happen at the ending. Something did, but it certainly didn't feel big. Nothing in this book really did. It was fluff, which was fine, but it'd be nice to have some kind of real tension to cut through the monotony. Some real danger. Something. There were some events that were supposed to serve as these things, but it just didn't grab me.

All of this really just felt yaoi-ish. I'm not sure how else to put it. And the fact that both m/m and m/f couples, but no f/f couples, were mentioned also really rubbed me the wrong way. This is a "queer romance" book, so you'd think it'd be a good idea to include WLW. But nope.

The whole "aura" and "nature" thing was really confusing too. I know she was trying to put a new spin on things but I just didn't get it. Honestly, a lot of this didn't really feel very vampire-y to me, other than the frequent blood sucking.

The characters were also "unrealistic" if you can even say that about a vampire novel. Haruka and Nino feel like cardboard cutouts. Haruka is too stiff and always saying "smart" things even as the most awkward moments, and Nino is too good, too sweet, too perfect. Whatever problems they have are quickly fixed. The minor characters are just there to make them seem more perfect, for he most part. The side characters, their friends, are just there to cheer on this fluffy, predictable pairing. Well, except for the one, who is meant to be a wedge but is little more than a paper door for them to tear right through like it's nothing.

Just disappointed. I expected more from this book and it wasn't delivered. I have no desire to read the others.
