Blue Beetle is a new hero to me - I've heard of him in passing, but this is the first time I'm reading him. It seems DC is trying to diversify its heroes both in terms of age and ethnicity as Jaime Reyes has (very much against his will) become the second Blue Beetle. The original holder of the title, Ted Kord, is now Reyes' mentor and gadfly.
The story seemed sort of meandering and unfocused, but that gradually coalesced into a standard tale of the hero having something the villain wants. That said, I did like the dialogue, especially between Kord and Reyes, and the artwork. Will be interested to see how the story unfolds.

Collects Blue Beetle (2016) Rebirth & 1-6
I love the design of Blue Beetle. He’s a super cool take on the Venom/Spiderman archetype, and my main on Injustice 2. But despite all that, I have never read one of his books. Giffen and Reed write an engaging introduction to the character, while adding in magic. Unfortunately, I found most side characters to be varying degrees of annoying, but regardless, I will probably continue.

It's comics like this that make me feel like I'm too old to be reading them. The main character is so hormonal and high strung he was getting annoying to me.
The ending is what saved this from being a 2 star rating.
Interesting story and good art. However, every character is at full snark 100% of the time, making conversations drag much longer than necessary and making one character's dialogue indistinguishable from another. It makes me question if any of these people actually like each other.

Art was the only thing that was good. Cringy zoomer dialogue and the Old Blue Beetle is awful.
