The Bewitched Reader: Guardian of Secrets (Library Jumpers #2) by Brenda Drake

The second instalment of this amazing book series did not disappoint me. In this book, Gia continues her adventures. Being a Sentinel is not easy and being a sentinel in love that is in hiding in a dangerous world that has to hide her relationship is even worse.
Even tough she can jump between libraries and have the most amazing adventures she still had to move away from all she knew. Her friends and family are still in danger, in reality, everyone is in danger. Besides, saving the world is kind of in her job description. Suddenly her amazing sentinel boyfriend starts acting up and Gia doesn't know what to do anymore. At the same time, strange things start to happen and she has to go and save the world, even if her heart is painfully broken.
I have to admit that Gia is one of my favourite main characters ever: she is strong and sure of herself but still has flaws and breaks down sometimes. Seeing what happened to her in this book was a little painful (well, more than a little).
The world in this series in very magical but it is still able to "keep it real". Magic is powerful but when abused it is also dangerous, especially when used to hurt people or in the quest for power over everyone. We have very good examples of that within this story and, having in mind it is directed to a YA audience, I believe it is a very important aspect. It is important to show that everything that can make a huge difference - like weapons - also comes with great responsibility.
The "relationship aspect" of the book is also complex, believable and confusing. I never thought that one day I would say that something being confusing was a good thing - actually, a great thing - but it is nonetheless. Sometimes - most times - feelings can be confusing and that is something that is often sugarcoated in literature. I admit that it is not a perfect depiction of what relationships are or may be but it is slightly educational and that is what is important.
The side characters are actually important and not just for show. One of the things I hate the most in books is meaningless side characters. When you have a set of people whose only function is to fill some space then they are meaningless. In this book, such as in the previous one, the side characters are "agents" in the story, they are intertwined in the overall plot.
Overall this is a very good sequel and only makes me want to read the third book in this series even more. If you like fantasy mixed with reality and truth.

I think this improved on the first one, which I already enjoyed. šŸ˜Š Iā€™m definitely a sucker for love triangles though and boy does this book have one.
I will say Iā€™m not a fan of the whole ā€œgirl only goes after second guy because the first guy rejects her (but did he really?)ā€ trope. I think I like Bastien a little better. He and Gia fit together the best I think. I donā€™t particularly dislike Arik though. Just kinda meh TBH.
Excited to finish the trilogy!

Read the Kindle sample, though I think it was shorter than usual. Nevertheless the tone and the book description didn't intrigue me because it felt like too much teen drama and I don't really care that much about that.

EARLY READING COPY!

I don't want to write my kind of a review, as this isn't released until 2017, and I have a tendancy to ramble on. Though I will say that it is an amazing read, with just enough sass, romance, angst, sadness and adventure. I highly recommend people pick up the first book in the series, 'Thief of Lies.'

So I'm going to do what the title says... I'm going to guard the secrets of how brilliant this book really is!

First things first: I received this book through NetGalley.

I'm still not sure about the rating. I loved the first book, the second one frustrated me a lot and sometimes made me wanna skip chapters and parts of the story. But that was just about the relationship stuff. I don't know.

Let me start to talk about the things that I really enjoyed in the book.
The search for all the Chiavi and the places it took Gia and Nick. That's what I love about the story, that it isn't just based around libraries in the USA, but actually around the world and that we actually see them go these places. Loved it.
Also there is something about the fightin scenes in the books, that is just incredible. They are intense and so well described, love it.

Character- and relationshipwise. I loved how much the relationship between Gia and Deidre grew. In the beginning, Deidre kinda had to find herself for a bit and not just be a copy of Gia and then they could finally build their friendship and actually acted like sisters towards each other. LOVED IT. I was also happy to see characters like Nana and Afton show up once in a while. And Faith. FAITH!!!!! I just love Faith so much and I'm bitter, I'm very bitter about things that happend. BITTER. I also loved the friendship between Gia and Jaran, how he was there for her and took care of her when she was a total mess.

Now let's get to the spoilery part, normally I wouldn't mention them in reviews but I need to talk about it. Now. So I'm serious, don't read further if you don't wanna read spoilers. Don't.

Arik. Arik and Emily. I knew he was spelled somehow. Cause the Arik we got as soon as he got together with Emily, wasn't the Arik that I loved in the first book. So either the author decided to completely change his character or something fishy was going on with Emily. And I was so happy that Gia thought that as well and that she actually had Jaran looking for any marks or tattoos on Ariks body. BUT YOU IDIOTS DIDN'T LOOK HARD ENOUGH. When they figured out there wasn't a mark/tattoo and then Gia thought about Arik's hair being longer, I just screamed at her to look at his damn neck.
But no. No. This was just the opening for Gia and Bastien becoming a thing. And ugh, no. No, I'm not a fan. That were the parts I was so frustrated with that I wanted to skip them. Ooops, no offence to everyone liking them, I just don't.

The only good thing about Gia and Bastien falling into the thing whose name I can't remember right now, was that they found Gian (alive!!!) and Royston (THE ONE!!!).

I'm mad, that we actually lost Gian at the end of the book. I'm mad about Kale. And I'm super mad about Faith. Cause Faith was my baby. UGH!!!!!

Iā€™m kind of really sad right now... That ending was just... OOF. So uh, everything I want to say is spoilers, so Iā€™ll avoid saying anything. Iā€™ll just follow a quick couple points I wanted to make and then stop this review before I tell you all everything that happens.

ā€¢First of all: AHHHHHHHH. Iā€™m so torn between Team Arik and Team Bastien
