The original Toy Story.
I have always wanted to read to the story, since I knew the main gist, but now after reading it, I'm wondering if it's really a children's book? some of the details were a bit gory or graphic.
Anyway, it really works well as a film or a visual production. The story of the young Marie who grows attached to a Nutcracker on Christmas Eve, and when everyone's goes to sleep, she discovers that he's more than just a toy.

An interesting trio of stories in this book.
Language is a little dated, but not enough to make reading a big struggle.
The three stories - The Nutcracker, The Sandman, and The Mines at Falun - come across as stories with morals, designed to make you see what happens if people lose who they are.
There is a very strong sense of folklore with these, specifically Swedish, which is really nice!
One thing to note with these stories, the last two of them deal with the issues around mental health and the illness of it. Some may find this a bit hard to deal with, so proceed with caution.
Also, these three stories don't have Disney-style happy endings! They can be open to interpretation.
