Fair enough, I'm rating this on a fond memory: but I really don't think I'm far off the mark.

As a child I was enchanted with this story of the naughty little Ping, the Chinese duck.

I completely forgot about this book until I saw it at Goodreads. But I remember liking it a lot as a kid. It was first read to me and when I learned to read, I read it to myself as well. I was fascinated by the foreign setting. I don’t have a copy now; I assume at this point I’d hate the part about the spanking.

Ping is a duck on the river. Would that it were so simple.

A classic! Best read in bed with a great storyteller!

Nobody wants to love classic, old-timey children's books more than me but this one does not hold up well. Something tells me Marjorie Flack was super white and had probably never been to China, and corporal punishment for no particular reason didn't bother her. Sorry, Ping. You deserve better.
