Truly spectacular cartooning that awed and inspired me when I wasn’t busy laughing at all of the hilarious character acting! Really lifelike characters with extremely lifelike flaws- clearly influenced by firsthand experience! Lol. I think my middle school students will love this one and be able to both relate to and empathize with its protagonists.
I loved this!!! I simply think Maddi Gonzalez is the greatest living cartoonist. The story was fun and interesting, I loved the characters and again, Maddi's incredible expressions, dynamic panels and speech bubbles, and beautiful colors truly made it a fav.

I have complicated feelings about the book. I did not enjoy the beginning in the slightest, and almost put the book down because of the main characters' behavior. But without all that, the second half of the book couldn't have happened, and it was a beautiful story, and really stuck the landing.
On the art side, the coloring was mostly flats, and I didn't entirely love the human character designs, but the panel by panel shot progression served the story incredibly and made it so vibrant, and the visual worldbuilding was impeccable; the griffons really, truly shine.

This was so beautiful and sweet and it made me cry. It did a great job capturing and interrogating the bitterness of being a nerdy kid. So loving.
