So glad I picked this one up. For those familiar with the picture book “The Grand Mosque of Paris,” this is a great follow up read. Based on true historical events of efforts by a Parisian mosque to aid Jewish people under persecution during world war 2, told from the perspective of a young girl. We see clearly how she may have been impacted by hunger, loss, impact of the holocaust on her neighbors and classmates. Would be a great accompaniment to students learning about this segment in world history.

This is the first book in a while that has made me cry several times. It took me forever to read because I had to keep putting it down to sob. I'm so grateful that this book exists for children to learn this forgotten history of unity & solidarity in the face of evil.

This is such a great book. The characters draw you in from the start. It gives a real sense of what life in the Grand Mosque was like in Paris during WWII. It's filled with hope and humanity. There are a lot of difficult topics revolving around war, occupation, and religious persecution that would probably need extra support/ guidance for younger middle grade readers.
