Two great short stories!
fast-paced
emotional fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Loveable characters: Yes

Gifts of Love is a cozy quick read!

If you love period romance pieces, then you'll fall in love with the characters of both novellas. In particular, Lisa Kleypas explores childhood trauma and cultural prejudices of the times with love while still keeping the story true to the Christmas spirit! A great cozy winter night read!

I did not like the Kay Hooper novella in this pairing

Excellent anthology, I liked the Kleypas story better but I'm a long time fan of hers. The other story by Hooper was pretty good too, I will look for more books by this author.

I just loved these. Although they are just quick little reads, the stories were super fun and the characters often made me smile.

Haven't read Kay Hooper in ages but I have very vague and fond memories of reading her old school romances when they were considered new. Her contribution to this duet was a ghost story which mirrored Richard and Toni's relationship - the lies told by his former mistress that drove Toni to call off their engagement with no explanation. Definitely old school in making another woman the villan.
Lisa Kleypas' novella was also old school in that the hero was a proud Irish man who didn't think he was good enough for his Boston Brahmin wife....shades of Rhys Winterbourne since he grew up poor to a father who was a grocer and he pulled himself up by the bootstraps by excelling at school, going to Harvard and building a real estate empire.
