This was a perfect long-weekend read. Fluffy and fun in the best way--I cried laughing multiple times. But it also hit was some deeply developed character growth and I loved the way that Rosaline was able to call out so much homophobia and sexism and just plain meanness, even when it was hard, but struggled with standing up to her parents (or believing she had the right to), despite seeing them and their gas-lighting clearly. I loved the Bake-Off setting--so many of the laughs came from being able to see them within the context of that very familiar, very soothing, very specific setting. I stayed up till 1 am because I was enjoying it so much. I will absolutely read the next book in this series because this was just wonderful.

3.5 rounded up to 4 because yay for diverse characters and for using GBBO/bake expectations as the framework for the story!
Took me a long time to get into this one, bc I candidly didn't like any of the characters. But Rosaline grew on me, Harry was wonderful, and I suppose Alain was maybe too spot on as a cis white male.
Now I have a strange urge to bake a cake. Or just eat one :)

The stars are due to the whole cast of fun characters. Special shot out to Amelie, Lauren, and Envita, they were a genuine romp. I also love the whole crew. Books like this is why I miss romantic comedy movies. I would watch this with my friends in a heartbeat.
The beginning part of the book was stressful because I forgot that not every romance follows the exact same pattern and was quite offended by a character that I thought I was expected to like. But I loved this book so much I was ready to go back in right away, but I’m going to try to save it for when I need something this fun and cute again.
Do heed the content warnings on here. I forgot to check them and was disappointed there wasn’t a warning at the beginning of the book. I will make sure to include them in the appropriate section.

Hilarious, English style… If you enjoy The Great British Baking Show, you will definitely love this story. Rosaline is competing in the Bake Expectations show to be the top baker in England. She is a single mother of a precocious 8 year old daughter who struggles with balancing raising her child, keeping a home, and trying to meet her overachieving parents expectations.
The storyline highlights the on and off camera situations of a baking show including quirky characters, extremely funny baking incidents, and steamy relationships. This experience challenges Rosaline’s views on people, the world and most especially herself.
My favorite parts are the witty banter among the show’s participants and the Rosaline’s daughter, Amelie. She is intelligent and constantly questions the insane views of adults through the lens of a child. She made me laugh the most.
Thank you for the advanced copy.

I'm not indecisive, Mother, I'm bisexual. There's a difference.
Starting to write this review, I realised this is the first non-historical Alexis Hall book that I read (fifth in total) and I'm happy to announce that I loved it!
Honestly though, I don't have that much to say. I loved the bi-rep, I loved the found family vibes, I loved the single mother stuff, I loved how absolutely ridiculous Amelie was, I loved Harry. Going into this book, I for some reason thought that the love interest was supposed to be non-binary? I'm not sure where I got that idea because that's not the case! The descriptions of the bakes made me salivate, so it's a good thing that there are a couple of recipes at the end of the book.
Overall pretty great if not my favourite from Hall! Going to read [b:Paris Daillencourt Is About to Crumble|60375966|Paris Daillencourt Is About to Crumble (Winner Bakes All, #2)|Alexis Hall|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1652973787l/60375966._SY75_.jpg|91133345] soonish.

This was a lot of fun, even with being able to see the disastrous conflict coming from a mile away. I laughed quite a few times, and several more had practically-incurable giggles which seems like a very solid reason to recommend the book.

I loved this. What a fun read for my first of the year. My love of all things British Baking Show extend to this book. And the author nailed it that as an American, my favorite part is how friendly and helpful the contestants are to each other. Yes, I found the characters of Alain and the parents so frustrating and I just wanted Rosaline to stand up for herself. Glad she figured it out by the end. My only peeve is Alain’s career seemed to switch from landscape architect to architect - they are not the same.
