This book was not what I expected, but I am excited to share it with my children when they are early teenagers. It was a solid story line and wasn't too historical but definitely had good historical roots.

i felt like an easily-excitable 14 year old girl while reading this. which is, in fact, pretty fun.

definitely better than Princess Diaries. Still very pick me girl (I would've loved this at age 10) but also fun plot yay. Was really hoping for a Marco plot twist but then Marco was exactly who he was set up to be the entire time.

King Arthur legend in modern day high school -- what's not to love?!?

The first three quarters were really fun and enjoyable, but for whatever reason, as soon as the Arturian stuff started to happen, I became less invested. I think it's because it felt pretty sudden (even though I knew it was coming), and the execution left something to be desired. Especially in regards to the ending, which was so anticlimactic.

But like I said, the other aspects were intriguing and fun. I liked the little romance, and all of the moments of foreshadowing the Arthurian stuff, and the reincarnation aspect.

2012 Update: This is the third time I've read this book, and I am still utterly in love with it. It's irreverent, sometimes silly and cheesy, but it works.

SpoilerOriginal Review:I completely loved this from the first page to the last, and was engrossed in it the entire time. Hence why it only took me a few hours to read it; I just couldn't put it down.

I've always wanted a really good story involving the Arthurian characters turning up/being reincarnated/whatever in the modern world, and Meg Cabot weaves them all into this wonderful story. The characters relive much of what passed in their previous lives, but in this case, they manage to move beyond and overcome the tragedies that dogged them in the past and into something new and great.

Or, you know, they could just be perfectly normal kids who have to deal with a bunch of adults with over-active imaginations. It's up to the reader to decide.

I did especially like Cabot's twist on just who Ellie is supposed to represent from the Arthurian legends. It wasn't until Ellie threw Will the sword that I remembered that while there are Elaine of Astolat and Elaine of Corbenic in the legends, there is also the Lady of the Lake, and she too sometimes bore the name of Elaine. I was just utterly tickled when that came to mind.

A great book, definitely one for any teen who likes both romance and playing around with Arthurian Legend.
